Legacy of Kain Official Encyclopedia and Tabletop Role-Playing Game

Created by Lost In Cult

Return to the gothic fantasy that defined a genre with Legacy of Kain: The Book of Nosgoth, the official encyclopedia and archive. Then, forge your own path through Nosgoth in Legacy of Kain: Scourge of the Sarafan, a brutal tabletop role-playing game.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Legacy of Kain: Defiance EU 21st Anniversary 🥳
over 1 year ago – Thu, Feb 06, 2025 at 09:56:41 AM

"Given the choice – whether to rule a corrupt and failing empire or to challenge the Fates for another throw, a better throw, against one's destiny – what was a king to do?

But does one ever truly have a choice?  One can only match, move by move, the machinations of Fate, and thus defy the tyrannous stars." — Kain

Legacy of Kain: Defiance hit EU shelves today back in 2004. To celebrate, we've raided the archives for some Defiance concept art from series legend Kory Heinzen.

What are your favourite memories of Legacy of Kain: Defiance?

First four stretch goals UNLOCKED + play as a vampire in Scourge of the Sarafan 🧛‍♂️
over 1 year ago – Wed, Feb 05, 2025 at 09:59:12 AM

On Saturday, you helped us reach £300k in funding, meaning we unlocked our first three milestones under 24h after announcing them! 🤯

We are continually amazed at and very grateful for your response to this project. Legacy of Kain is an important series which we have wanted to celebrate for a long time, and with your backing, we are doing just that.

Given the overwhelming response, we can dive even deeper to the Legacy of Kain series! So far, you have unlocked:

🖼️ £250,000: Art prints for the Encyclopedia

🎨 £275,000: Art expansion for Scourge of the Sarafan from Lukasz Kowalczuk

And completing our first three unlocked stretch goals:

📖 £300,000: Marbled end papers for the encyclopedia

We heard you loud and clear on your suggestions for more material upgrades to the books themselves! The encyclopedia is of course extremely premium already, with metallic foil details on both the cover and slipcase, black printed fore-edges, and a gold bookmark ribbon.

But we're adding even more elegance to the Encyclopedia, as we introduce decorative marbled endpapers to the front and back of the Book of Nosgoth.

And, for the second week running, you have already unlocked the first stretch goal of our new announcement! Our £325k second art expansion milestone is now UNLOCKED.

To misquote the Elder God: "Your blood-thirst is replaced by a deeper need – you have become a devourer of goals." To satiate you, we are announcing three more stretch goals!

£325,000: Art expansion 2 for TTRPG (UNLOCKED)

Proudly announcing our latest artist collaboration: Alexey Gorboot!

Alexey's work is full of texture and character, fitting snugly within our announced line up of artists for the TTRPG so far. His work feels like a continuation of the Silver Age of comics, deftly weaving between themes of horror and humour in his compositions. His detailed, hand inked linework combined with his wonderfully lurid colour palette make his style stand apart instantly, he'll be a great addition to the roster of artists we have built.

£350,000: Bookmark for all backers

Forgotten which timeline you're reading up on? Save your place with a Legacy of Kain bookmark, designed to compliment the look and feel of the Encyclopedia.

£375,000: Front cover embossing for the TTRPG

Artyom Trakhanov's evocative cover will feature all-new embossed details, creating an even more premium feel than before.

£400,000: Play as a vampire in the TTRPG

Our most requested stretch goal: rally against the Sarafan Brotherhood and turn the tides of the vampire purge! Scourge of the Sarafan writer Leo Hunt adds all-new rules to our vicious MÖRK BORG-compatible tabletop experience.

Start your run with the Blood Curse – or perhaps contract it during your playthrough. Happy hunting…

£425,000: ?

We're keeping this under wraps for now. When you hit £425k, we'll announce the milestone alongside all-new stretch goals for you to hunt down.

Behind the Project: Who are Cook and Becker?
over 1 year ago – Tue, Feb 04, 2025 at 10:05:58 AM

Following last week's introduction of games culture preservationists Lost In Cult, it's time to introduce the second creator of our Legacy of Kain collection: game art aficionados Cook and Becker.

Cook and Becker is an international art gallery, book publisher and concept store for game art, concept art and design that collaborates with game makers, publishers—and our friends at Lost in Cult—to make beautiful things that fans can truly treasure.

We’ve spent more than a decade working with beloved contemporary artists, illustrators and game studios to produce museum-grade art prints in limited editions, premium art books, box sets and other beautifully designed products that celebrate the worlds of video games, entertainment and pop culture.

We’ve been lucky enough to work on some fantastic projects, including truly epic Pac-Man and Sonic The Hedgehog coffee table books, stunning stationery and notebook box sets for The Last of Us Part II and God of War, an exclusive new The Last of Us print by the legendary Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano—and most recently the Enhance At 10 Boxed Set, celebrating 10 years of the Rez Infinite and Tetris Effect: Connected studio, Enhance.

We’re doing what we love, and we strive to demonstrate that with everything we make.

A massive thank you to everyone who has backed so far. This project has been a whirlwind already – and we're just getting started!

Tomorrow, we will be revealing our secret £300k stretch goal, along with an all-new set of milestones to devour. See you then!

£300k+ passed! New stretch goals coming! 😱
over 1 year ago – Mon, Feb 03, 2025 at 09:51:44 AM

We start the new week with our minds once again blown at your incredible support and excitement!

We've blown straight past our three recently-revealed stretch goals - thank you so much!

🔓 £250k - New art prints - UNLOCKED!

All-new art prints will now be included in all orders that include our Encyclopedia. Each will celebrate the history and lore of Nosgoth, making them the perfect companion to this tome.

🔓 £275k - A new art expansion for Scourge of the Sarafan - UNLOCKED

We're now working with renowned comic book artist and illustrator Lukasz Kowalczuk to bring you all-new art to the TTRPG.

Lukasz has lent his bespoke style to countless creations such as Wyrd Science and multiple MÖRK BORG projects. His fantastic work is the perfect pair with Scourge of the Sarafan.

🔓 £300k - ??? - UNLOCKED!

We're happy to confirm we are now working on our next three stretch goals! 🎉

We wanted to reveal what that £300k unlocked goal is when we were ready to reveal the next three stretch goals, as a treat. We'll be sharing the next stretch goals for us all to aim towards in the coming days.

If you haven't yet, please shout about this project in all corners of the LoK community, to friends, pals, and strangers! The more support this receives, the better we can make it for all existing backers.

Stay tuned later this week - the vampires among you will want to keep your fangs on these ones... 👀🧛

Behind the Project: Who are Lost In Cult?
over 1 year ago – Fri, Jan 31, 2025 at 10:21:33 AM

Firstly, from all of us at Lost In Cult and Cook and Becker: what a week! We are so happy you have all resonated with our project – and are as ravenous for more Legacy of Kain as we are!

You may be asking: who the f*!k are Lost In Cult?

Lost In Cult are an award-winning creative studio and Amazon-bestselling book publisher. What do we do? In a sentence: if it's physical media and video game related, we're into it.

Our aim is to preserve video game culture in every way we can, from telling its history in books like A Handheld History and The Console Chronicles; recording a game's development journey in our Design Works range; bringing previously digital-only soundtracks to vinyl like Slay The Princess — The Pristine Cut – and soon, we may even be turning our eye to physical video game releases. We've shared some images of our past works below!

We also run [lock-on]: a periodical journal filled with articles and interviews from games industry veterans, developers, journalists and community members – all accompanied by incredible bespoke artwork and illustrations. Our latest issue, 006, is filled to the brim with reflections on the Zelda and Final Fantasy series, as well as an interview with Castlevania veteran Koji Igarashi, community reflections on Animal Crossing, and much more.

Since we were founded in 2020, we have worked with increasingly popular games franchises. Working with Crystal Dynamics on a Legacy of Kain project is an absolute bucket list achievement for us. We cannot wait to bring your favourite game to life, preserving its history in physical form.

Next week, we'll hear from our partners at next-gen art gallery and all-round games culture aficionados Cook and Becker.

Have a great weekend all. Vae Victis!
